Privacy policy

The Scuup is a two-person business in Hamilton, Ontario. We collect the minimum information needed to clean your yard and keep you informed, and this page explains exactly what that means. It is written to meet our obligations under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who is responsible
The Scuup is accountable for the personal information in our care. Our privacy contact is the owner of the business, reachable at [email protected]. Write to that address for anything on this page and we will answer within 30 days.
What we collect
When you book: your name, email address, phone number, service address, the number of dogs you have, how we access your yard and any notes you add. Automatically, when you submit the form: the IP address of the request and your browser identifier, used only to stop automated abuse of the form. If you are a client, we also keep the day of your route, your visit history and internal notes about the service. We do not collect anything else, and we never ask for information we do not need to do the work.
Why we collect it
To contact you about your request, to schedule and carry out your visits, to keep a record of the service provided, and to answer questions about past visits. Your address exists in our records for one reason: our team has to find your yard. We do not use your information to build profiles, and we do not sell, rent or trade it — ever.
Your consent
By sending the booking form you consent to us collecting and using your information for the purposes above. You can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing [email protected], subject to any legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice — bear in mind that withdrawing consent means we can no longer provide the service.
Who else can see it
Only the two people who run The Scuup, plus the service providers that make the site work: our hosting and database provider (Cloudflare), the service that delivers email notifications of new bookings, and our payment processor (Stripe) when you start a plan. Those providers process your information only on our instructions. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never stored by us. We may also disclose information if a law, warrant or court order requires it.
Where your information is stored
Our site, database and photos are hosted on Cloudflare's global network, which means your information may be stored or processed on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is in another country it may be accessible to the courts and law enforcement of that country. We chose providers that offer strong security and, where possible, keep processing close to home.
How long we keep it
While you are a client, and for up to 24 months after your last visit so we can answer questions about past service and meet our record-keeping obligations. Requests that never become clients are deleted after 12 months. Abuse-prevention records, such as IP addresses attached to form submissions, are kept for a much shorter time and are deleted automatically.
How we protect it
Everything travels over an encrypted connection. Our admin area is password-protected, sessions expire after 12 hours, failed login attempts are logged and rate-limited, and every change to a client record is recorded with who made it and when. Access is limited to the two people who run the business.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, or delete it entirely. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or 1-800-282-1376.
If something goes wrong
If a security breach ever creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as soon as feasible, as the law requires, and tell you plainly what happened and what to do about it.
Cookies and analytics
The public site sets no tracking cookies and shows no advertising. If we measure traffic, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without building a profile of you. The private admin area uses one session cookie, strictly necessary for the people running the business to log in.
Emails we send
We email you about your own bookings and visits. If we ever send anything promotional, it will only be with your consent or where Canada's anti-spam law allows it, it will identify us clearly, and it will carry a one-click unsubscribe that we honour within 10 business days.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell current clients by email before it takes effect.
